Concentration PiecesMovement in Arches This piece was inspired by the Raqqa II by Frank Philip Stella. I took the arches from the painting and made it 3D by having them connect in many ways with colors that resemble the painting. This goes with my concentration because the vibrant colors connect it, and the arch-like movement resembles ropes moving through the air. >>>Super Skippers This piece was inspired by the logo for my team. The YMCA puts >>> in front of a lot of the names for their different organizations. Duct tape is a big part of my jump rope experience as people use it to mark ropes. These different tapes are what I've used throughout the years to mark my ropes, and tape that I've given to kids as a counselor to show that they've been doing a good job at camps. This goes with my concentration because it's very geometric like the previous piece, has a color scheme that is vibrant and intense, and is made from something I used in jump rope. Patience (name subject to change) For my abstract piece I wanted to make some type of pattern out of jump rope beads, and to guarantee it would be abstract the only part I planned out was the black pattern. Everything else was entirely random, which was hard for me because sometimes I wanted to try to plan it out. This goes with my concentration because it again has a geometric shape, vibrant colors, and is made up of something that I actually used in jump rope. Breadth PiecesRecycled Africa This piece is my cardboard piece from over summer and I got influence for it from pinterest. I saw lots of DIY animal decorations that looked really cute, and I figured I could do something cool with an animal out of cardboard. I was looking around my house for any spare cardboard we had, and when I saw the toilet paper tubes I thought about making an elephant. I really like the way it turned out with all of the different layers, and I think it gives some nice variety to my portfolio. Sock Puppet Eel This piece is my object to art, and I decided to use a lava lamp as my object. I wanted to make something around the lava lamp that would actually glow in real life, and my first thought was to do a jellyfish. the lava lamp I have at home is a green/yellow color, so I thought I would do an electric eel instead of a jellyfish. The end result turned out looking a little bit more like a sock puppet than an eel, but I still really enjoy the piece. This eel was meant to look like a garden eel, but with brighter colors instead of the typical gravel colors. Pit Fire Perspectives This piece was meant to look different on every side because I glued and wrapped different items on each side of the pyramid-like shape. I gave this to my mom as a Christmas present, and neither of us were sure what to put inside it. My grandma thought to put a fake succulent inside of it that would match part of the colors, since a real plant wouldn't be able to grow in this. I really love the way it turned out, and I think this piece is a nice addition to my portfolio. Winter Dreams For my surrealism piece I knew I wanted to do something with a dream catcher to represent the dreamlike state. I wanted to put it on an animal and originally I thought of a plain fox, but when I thought of the color scheme I wanted I decided to change it to an arctic fox instead. This piece was very time consuming, but I believe this one is my favorite piece I have done so far, and I love how it turned out. Fun to Play with, Not to Eat This piece is from art 2, and we made food out of clay. The name that immediately came to mind is the playdoh slogan because we made fake food. I wanted to make gummy bears, and I like the way the glaze turned out to make them look somewhat see through.
