I'm a little late on taking the in progress pictures for this project, but my object to art involved a lava lamp. I wanted to create an eel that could fit over the lava lamp to make the eel "electric," but the eel looks like a sock puppet now. Either way it's cute, and I like it. To make this I started with the base rolled around a PVC pipe, and then made coils up the rest of the way through the face. The eyes were attached separately. Then I went through and cut out the holes for the lava lamp, and traced where I wanted the spots to be. After going through the kiln I painted it, and the first picture is after the first glaze firing. After the glaze firing the blue came through a little splotchy, so I added another coat of the blue glaze. It went through the kiln for a second time with glaze, and then I was done!
I picked a lava lamp because I was trying to think of objects that I have laying around my house that I haven't used in forever, and I remembered that I have a lava lamp in my room that I haven't used in forever. I thought it could be cool to put something on the outside of the lava lamp to make it so the glowing part was on the inside of something. I thought of the eel because the lava lamp could make it "electric." I was torn between an eel and a jellyfish, but I figured that the shape of the eel would go better with the shape of the lava lamp.
